Fergus, ON…Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) opened their new, on-site helipad on Tuesday, December 1st at 9:00 am.
The new helipad allows the most critically ill and severely injured patients fast access to specialized emergency care at a tertiary care centre.
“Accessing critical care quickly can make the difference between life and death,” says Stephen Street, President and CEO, GMCH. “The heliport will improve the health outcomes for critically sick and injured patients.”
Prior to the new helipad opening on-site at GMCH, the helipad was located off-site on Glengarry Crescent in Fergus. “The new hospital property allows us the space to have the helipad located directly on-site,” explains Street. “This also eliminates the additional step of having our EMS ground ambulance transporting patients from the hospital to the old helipad site across town.”
“Safety is a key priority with the introduction of the Heliport at Groves Hospital,” says Street. “If you happen to be outside the hospital when the air ambulance arrives – please stay well back (at least 200 feet) to protect yourself from noise and possible flying debris.”
